How to Make Green Beans and Potatoes in a Slow Cooker

Aunt Lou here.

I am always on the lookout for great recipe ideas to share with you good folks. So, when I went down to Momma’s and had some of her green beans and potatoes, I knew I was going to have to cRock this recipe and share it with you wonderful folks! It is the perfect side dish for so many mains, and honestly, I could just sit down and eat at bowl of this recipe for dinner. It makes me think of childhood dinners and having veggies that this picky eater actually loves to eat! This recipe is so yummy!

Note on Crock Pot Green Beans and Potatoes

  • We have made this dish in a 2.5-quart slow cooker. If you need to make enough to feed a larger group of people, you can easily double the recipe and put it in a 5-6 quart slow cooker. You will just want to make sure you watch it the first time you try making the double batch so you can adjust the timing as needed.

  • Check out all our favorite recommendations for cookbooks, slow cookers and low carb essentials in our Amazon Influencer Shop.
  • As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and should always be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

To really amp up this dish, cube up a ham steak and add it to your cooker. A-maz-Ing flavor. Great pictures, thanks for reminding me of a favorite side dish.

      Hi Bree!

I haven’t tried it with thawed frozen green beans, but think it should work. You will have to add more liquid though. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

      Hi Susan!

I haven’t tried this with fresh green beans, but think it could work. You will need to add more liquid and the cooking time may have to be adjusted. You will want to watch it closely the first time you make it so you can know how the timing needs adjusted. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

      Hi Pat!

I haven’t made this in a larger crock pot, but think it could work. It will change the cooking time though. Or, if you have a glass bowl that will fit in your larger crock pot, you could try the double-broiler method we use in this recipe: https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/crock-pot-steel-cut-oatmeal/. If you give it a try, let me know how it goes!

This is a great recipe. I didn’t have any garlic so I used the dried chopped garlic and I added the chopped onion. You have the best recipes. Everything I have made from your recipes has turned out delicious.
