How to Make Chicken Legs {Mississippi Style} in the Slow Cooker

Cris here.

Ever since the Crock Pot Mississippi Beef Roast hit the scene, we have been โ€œMississippiโ€ crazy around here… Especially Mikey!  Now, truth be told, I donโ€™t have the first clue why this flavor combo is dubbed Mississippi other than my guess is it originated from a home kitchen in Mississippi, but regardless, we just love the flavor.

So it wasn’t long before we tried it out with chicken legs since that is Miss Add’s very favorite. We LOVED it. And, when Miss Add and I were talking about her next Kids in the Kitchen segment on our YouTube Channel she insisted we share our “Mississippi” twist on Crock Pot Chicken Legs!

We love these flavors so much that we have a whole library of Mississippi- style recipes:

How to Make Mississippi Chicken Legs Low Carb

While not everyone is comfortable using pre-made packets in their low carb diet, we enjoy these Crock Pot Mississippi Chicken Legs in our low carb menu from time to time by substituting the traditional ranch packet for a dill ranch packet or chive and onion packet. Both reduce the carb counts for the entire recipe by 16 carbs. Additionally we make sure to use AuJus Gravy packets instead of higher carb gravy packetsโ€“ this typically makes the carb count at least 1/4 of what it would be.

You can find these packets in almost any grocery store in the salad dressing aisle and gravy/sauces aisle. We also have them in our Amazon Recommendations under Low Carb Kitchen Favorites.

Like we always say on the blog, carb counts are ALWAYS going to be dependent on the exact ingredients you useโ€“ not the recipe itself.

For Mississippi chicken legs, can you suggest an alternative to the pepperoncinis? Something without the heat/spice of the pepperoncinis?

Hi Sue! Some readers have mentioned using dill pickles with success. Enjoy!

HI! I have made two of your recipes so far and loving them. In the Mississippi chicken legs recipe, can’t you suggest something besides pepperonchinis? Something that does not not have the spice/heat of the pepperonchinis?
