Why is it called “Mississippi” Beef (or Chicken or Ribs)?

Cris here.

Long time readers know how much our family loves “Mississippi-style” recipes. Truth be told, I have no idea if this recipe truly has roots in Mississippi, however, that is the name given to many dishes that include some combination of your favorite meat, butter, pepperoncinis, broth, ranch mix and gravy mix. Each home cook has a bit of a different way of making it, but in the end, all of them produce a delicious main dish that is super easy to make. That is why so many folks love it. Below is a list of our “Mississippi-style” recipes on the site.

HOW TO MAKE MISSISSIPPI RIBS LOW CARB

While not everyone is comfortable using pre-made packets in their low carb diet, we enjoy Mississippi Ribs as an easy low carb dinner from time to time by substituting the traditional ranch packet for a dill ranch packet or chive and onion packet. Both reduce the carb counts for the entire recipe by 16 carbs. Additionally we make sure to use AuJus Gravy packets instead of higher carb gravy packetsโ€“ this typically makes the carb count at least 1/4 of what it would be.

You can find these packets in almost any grocery store in the salad dressing aisle and gravy/sauces aisle. We also have them in our Amazon Recommendations under Low Carb Kitchen Favorites.
